One thing I’ve always admired about the British is their ability to refer to horrible and ghastly acts as “unpleasantness.” They might say something like, “I hope we don’t see more unpleasantness of the sort we saw over at Sheffield Manor,” when they are in fact referring to a triple homicide where a pregnant woman was beheaded and then her child was literally ripped from her womb and tossed into a vat of boiling water.
