I have to confess that one topic I was itching to comment on while this blog was down was the rise (and possibly fall) of congressional nominee Rand Paul. Maybe I’ll wrap my thoughts around something for a later post, but for now I want to note that rock band Rush is ordering Paul to cease and desist using their music.
As many know, Rush lyricist Neil Peart drew a lot of inspiration from libertarian guru Ayn Rand (out of curiosity, does anyone know for sure whether Rand Paul is named after her?), and I was a little curious as to what their take would be on Rand and his father Ron. I have a vague recollection that Peart’s politics have moved towards a more anticorporate kind of libertarianism in recent years. The article notes that Rush’s motivation here is not politics but intellectual property rights.
I’ve been meaning to get into Ayn Rand for years. Just like I’ve been meaning to get into Rush. Guess I’ll just get into Rand Paul.
But seriously, have you ever seen the size of those Rand books? They’re almost as long as a Neil Peart solo!
Yeah, actually I read The Fountainhead a few years ago. Not bad – kind of a soap opera. I don’t think I have it in me to tackle Atlas Shrugged since I know the general plot.
It was “Atlas Shrugged” I was looking at – More than twelve hundred pages and tiny little print. I’m not afraid of long books but, MAN!
I just had one of my long insanely detailed epic dreams. This one was about a bunch of present day Tough Guy Irishmen transported through Time to Eighteenth Century New Orleans, bringing the Irish weather with them. They meet up with Eddie Murphy as some kind of Caribean Pirate who finances their factory manufacturing Twenty First Century Winter Gear and save New Orleans. This was a Musical.
My dad had a strange dream about having to pluck fibers that were floating by in the air and make rope out of them.
I hope he didn’t inhale any of them.
