The
contribution Snoop Doggy Dogg has made to American music is incalcuable.
Before Snoop, rappers did indeed talk about "bitches"
and "hos", but none other than Snoop did it with such
unquestioned style and SuperFly coolness. (Slick Rick being the
possible exception.) Whereas many other rappers were decimated
over questions of their street credibility or whether they were
actually "gangsta", Snoop so perfecetly held the standard
of pimpness decided decades ago by such icons as Barry White and
Richard Roundtree (Shaft) that such accusations easily
slid past him.
However,
on the castration of Death Row Records, Snoop's future seemed
unclear. He released an ill recieved album for Master P's No Limit
label. However, a new album, with Snoop teaming once again with
West Coast rappers and producers such as Dr. Dre and DJ Quik may
revitalize his career.
