More on face transplants

Photographs of the third person to have a full face transplant have been released. She doesn’t look that bad.

How this woman lost her face is quite bizarre, and perhaps foretelling of the scenario described in the recently released “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” (which I saw and quite enjoyed.)

Nash was hurt after a friend’s 200-pound (91 kg) pet chimpanzee went on a rampage two years ago. She lost her hands, lips, nose and eyes, leaving her blind and disfigured after the attack. The animal was eventually shot and killed by police.

I wonder when people will start to perform face transplants for purely cosmetic reasons. Will the exceptionally attractive — such as myself — have to fear the evolution of a black market for human faces?
